There are so many questions that occupy my mind, especially when it comes to religion.  Whenever I think of religion so many questions arise in my mind.

What is religion? Where does it come from? Is it sent to us by God? What is the purpose of religion?

In my opinion religion is like a guideline sent to us by God in order to help us to find the right path. Right path? What is it and to where? Altruism is the right path which leads to prosperity and happiness of all.

Actually God has no need of our praying. Praying helps us to purify our soul, to strengthen our faith and to soften our heart to be altruistic.

Why God has created us in different shapes and languages? Look around yourself; the beauty of life lies in its variety. Don’t you think if all of us were the same we would be bored? There is no beauty in Monotony. It’s no wonder then if we all have different religions and beliefs. It doesn’t mean that one religion is better than another. They are all sent by God, so they carry the same message. Surely they are different in details but they are the same in principles. There is no religion which supports oppression, murder, rape, steal, lie and so on. They all invite us to be good to do well. They are here to reveal the best of our humanity, to reduce pains caused by natural disasters not to increase pains by creating some disasters like war.

Does it really matter where we worship God in mosque, in church, in a synagogue, in a temple? What is the real worship? I believe to give helping hands to others, to be kind is the real worship. God wants us to love each other, to forgive, to be fair, to be compassionate, to be merciful, and to respect each other.

Imagine a society which people of different religions live in peace and respect with each other. What a wonderful society it would be! A society with high technology couldn’t be an evolved one if it does not care about human rights and dignity. If you are a religious person you must know that if you want others to respect your religion you must respect their religions too. Apart from our religion, our gender, our race and our country we all share the essence of humanity.

My intention of writing this blog is to highlight the fact that all religions should be respected. We should learn to understand the main message in order to create a better world.

Is it possible to have a world filled with peace and love and people practicing their own religion with respect to one another?

Let’s have hope.

  • Dear Saba, you summoned all I wanted to say up in your comment. Thanks for reading my post and leaving your comment.
  • Yes, Setareh! People are sisters and brothers no matter which religion they have.....and every body who loves altruism and truth is worshiping God, even if she/he has no religion.

  • Dear Gerardo, your comment is always welcomed even if it is against me.:Das I grew up in a relgious environment, so for me thinking completely outside relgion is somehow hard And strange. It doesn't mean that I have no doubts about what I have learned from my childhood, so I try to find a rational explanation for them.
About your second part of your comment i should say that we are made of our attitudes, right? As we grew up we accept or gain belifs through our family, culture, religion, society and so on. Some of these belifs and creeds are so precious for us, so we don't like to be offended even if our belifs are not right. I do disapprove of people who contempt a religion or a person who is sacred for a lot of people around the world.
Thanks for taking time reading my post and leaving comment.
  • Hi my dear friend, sorry for my late reply, as I told you, I´ve been very busy these last days.

Well, obviously is not an easy issue, but I have to admit, in this time I don´t agree with you a hundred percent... religions could invite us to be good, to do well, but I´ve not heard (and maybe I´m wrong) religions invite us to think for ourselves, to question rules and authority... I think religion is like a source of moral recipes, and I can't handle it.

And the last one, I don´t think religions should be respected, people must be respected, the problem is some people consider their beliefs a part of their bodies, and they can hurt somebody just because a man said something about their beliefs. There are many examples, you can check this one: Salman Rushdie, author of the Satanic Verses.

Have a wonderful day my friend, I hope see you soon.

  • Dear Blessing, thanks for your nice comment. I didn't expect you to accept all of my opinions. You got the gist of my blog and that is love and respecting eachother. As you said it so beautifully "love your enemy".
  • Dear Alice, thanks for your nice comment.
  • It is definitely the good we do for others that makes our religion valid.  As always setareh, there is wisdom in your blogs.  Glad to see this today. :)

  • Dear Sophia, as you yourself said if such any religion holds such a belief they are distorted. humans are all equal in the eyes of God; the only distinction is their virtue. Thanks for your comment.

  • Dear Eduardo, thanks for taking time and reading my post. You are right we need compassionate people more than anything not some bias and narrow minded people.

  • hello Setareh, I have passion for studying religions too. I don't agree that all religions are sent by the same God. And actually Buddhist people don't believe in a God, it is a non-theistic religion. Anyway, your point of view touched my heart, I strongly believe that humanity, in some future, will evolve in a more compassionate humanity, respecting the beliefs of others. It's  really interesting to reflect about religion and spirituality. I'm sure, you are a very interesting person to speak with.
