How to describe food??

Hello every body.

Hope you are doing fine.

Have you ever tried to describe food?

The kind of fruit you like or your favorite meal. How does it taste. It's shape and how does it feel? How its  textures feel in the mouth?!

I did and I was shocked by my Lack for the right words.

I was chatting with my dear friend Martin about kinds of fruits that we have in Sudan and they don't in Slovak, and the opposite. We both were stumped when we tried to describe them to each other.

It's easier to talk about the shape but not other aspects.

What is the right vocabulary that we use to do so??

Searching for a word in google translate doesn't help much because I will search them in my language and it's not the same.

Let's learn this together. How about choosing a common fruit of any kind of food in your country or home town and try to describe it to us?

We will gain both knowledge and vocabulary.

Thanks in advance. (^_^)

Martin thanks for the inspiring chat (^_*) I may be able to describe how mango taste soon ^_^ lol

  • @Mr.Bob

I am glad you added your precious comment you are welcome anytime :)))

I have started this when I failed miserably to describe mango to Martin :)

Still I find it difficult to without struggling

I do appreciate your help :

  • I think it is easier to describe something when you can compare it to something else. Unfortunately, many fruit are unique in taste and texture. I liked the part about the fibers in Mango fruit.  They do have some edible fiber, especially around the one large seed.  They make a sound I can't describe as a knife cuts through them.

I have seen a few different varieties in the USA, Botswana, Mexico and here on the Arabian Peninsular.  They all taste good to me and I would love to have a huge garden with some of every mango tree growing.  Maybe I will have to travel to Pakistan and India to try some of these.

I think that in describing fruit to each other there is an important area to explain besides trying to convey the taste.  That is the feel of the fruit in your mouth and texture. Maybe if we had a few more fruit that several members had eaten we could work out feel and texture comparisons to help explain other fruit.

I wish I had seen this blog when it first came out because this is such a good and useful  topic for discussion.  Thank you for starting this Rabab.

  • Dear Surawan thanks a lot for your comment. You added an important part that we missed in describing mango, which is shape ^_^ As you said words can't describe the taste properly unless u really eat it. Poor Martin hope you would soon God willing:p lol

And I have never seen this other fruit before woow how extraordinary its shape is. Thanks for sharing.

Regarding the exchange mmmm its totally unfair strawberry is very small in compare to mango so the weight should be considered in such cases If you want I can help you so this inspiring friend wouldn't deceive you ;)

And don't be fooled by the nice talk about rewards hehehe

  • Dear Rabab, there are two fruits I would like to describe :)

The shape of a mango is round or oval. The skin is smooth and green in un-ripe mango but turns into golden yellow, bright yellow or orange-red when it is ripe. It tastes sweet with pleasant smell. By reading my words,it is hard to feel how taste it is, until you chew it :)))

Durian is known in Asia as "the King of Fruit" but durian fruit is banned in public places such as public buses, hotels or hospitals because its smell is barely perceptible. You can easily get hurt by durain because of the hard and sharp spiky skin!!! Durain is sweet, creamy and silky :)
    That's all I can describe ^_^

One more thing,an inspiring friend would give me a strawberry, if I gave him a mango. A mango is bigger than a strawberry. Is it a fair exchange,Rabab ? ^_^

  • @Ahmed you can eat and that's make u a good describer of food   ^_^

    Thanks for passing by.

    Have a nice evening

As the picture shows mango has an appetizing shape. Its mouth-watering. When you grab one of those feeling the cold of it in your hand and hearing the sound of it while tearing it with the knife its appealing aroma fills your mouth and when you take a bite the divine taste of its textures melted in the juice of its extraction  hits you at once and the dulcet aftertaste of it stays there. It doesn't taste totally honeyed like watermelon for example, it has a heavenly slight acerbic trace.

The texture is less harder than apples I think because it has more fibers.

Its juice is ambrosial. And it has also health value, it help people lose weight and improve their over all health. This link provide more information about this matter.
