Hina

Hina is used during bridal nights in Sudan. It's an important ceremony or custom before the wedding. Watch out! I do not mean my previous blog, The Wedding. On the night of Hina, relatives and close friends come to share the bride and the bridegroom their joy. Some of them pay money for the relatives of the couple. Our country and the neighboring Egypt are famous of producing Hina. China and India also produce it. Hina or Henna is a plant with flowers. It needs a hot climate to grow. Its leaves grow opposite each other on the stem. I do not know about its scientific name, but according to my friend Adam, he is an agricultural engineer, it is called (lawsonia inermis). It is the species of the lawsonia genus. The leaves of the tree are dried and crushed. Water and other liquids are added to the powder to form a sticky paste.

The paste can be applied with many traditional and innovative tools, starting with a basic stick
In some Arab countries, but the syringe is widely used. The Indians use plastic cones, and cones are used in the western world. In a few minutes time, the stain of hina will appear on the skin within minutes.

  • Kimon achi Afro? Donnobad. The artificial dye is not good for some palms. some people are allergic to it. You are still using it, am I right? I wanted to make another blog about it, but most of the members have given enough details like you here in this useful comment. Thanks for your analysis for Hina.

  • Nice description, dara! Please, see your first para has been doubled. Anyway it was worth reading, indeed. Heena is also popular in Bangladesh. In my childhood we had many heena plants. Some grew as little tress. Yes, big plants give flowers though they are not noticeable like the leaves. I prefer raw heena. What is it? I pluck some leaves from the tree. Add very little amount of water with the leaves to make the paste. I have a stone made object to make this sort of paste. Then I decor my palms with a stick. No, it would not give colour in a wink. You have to take patience for at least 40 minutes to 1 hour. After dried up you should wash your palm you may add very little amount of coconut oil on your hand.( there is a saying, this oil may help the colour to stay more time. Yes, we have plastic cones too. O am sure there is some artificial color which dye within a short time. So, be careful to purchase these cones, specially who has allergy. I must say, I enjoyed your write up.
