HASSAN II MOSQUE

Yesterday I entered the Chatroom here in My English Club, and while discussing, two of the members asked me to tell them about Hassan II mosque here In Morocco. Unfortunately, I did not have enough time to satisfy their eagerness. In this respect, here is an illustrated idea about this beautiful masterpiece. The idea of constructing the mosque is HASSAN II's, king of Morocco. He inspired it from a verse of the holy Qoran: " Wa kana archoho ala al mae." That is " the throne of ALLAH, God, was on water."Hassan II mosque is located in Casablanca city, Morroco. It is considered as the 3rd largest mosque in the world, after Al Haramayn mosque. It is designed by the french architect Michel Pinoseau. The work was accomplished by Moroccan skillful artisans who perfect in arts and crafts. It took them 7 years(1986-1993 = 50 000 000 hours) to carry out this huge religious architectonic oeuvre. What is special about Hassan II mosque is that every thing about it is special if not unique. First, it is built on a nine hectars promontory: an area of high land that sticks out into the sea. Second, it has a prayer room and a courtyard that can accomodate to 10 500 worshippers. The prayer room is equipped with a movable roof which can be closed and opened in five minutes. Besides, the mosque has bathrooms in a moroccan style as well as turkish, ablution rooms, a library and a coranic school. All the mosque components are ornamented in a very pure arabesque way: mosaic, faience, sculpture and variegation.Hassan II mosque is Morocco's religious landmark.
