Expector's Concern

Hi Eveyone,

One more question for you: Now that you know I'm not a native English speaker, do you still think Expector's English is good enough to help you learn or improve English?

I know some of the members here are not interested in reading anything by non-native English speakers. They're afraid of learning mistakes non-native speakers may make. It's quite reasonable for them to think so or do so. I even suggest reading all the blog posts or comments by native English speakers. I admit that I read all the ones by Tara. But the problem is that most native English speakers do make mistakes now and then, and it's hard for learners to spot all the ones. Tara once said 'Don't be afraid of learning others' mistake'.

    Thanks for the kind comment. Yes, this blog was written in 1999 - a long time ago. It's Mishiakh who thinks it's an interesting topic still worth talking about.
    I agree we should look it up in a dictionary or a book when we're not sure if the word or usage is correct.
    Best wishes!

    @Mishaikh
    I know English is your official language. So, people in Pakistan or India can speak English very well, and no wonder the leader can speak better English than an educated Brit.

  • But what if native speakers also make mistakes in language.

    I remember one of OUR national leaders Maulana Muhammad Ali Jauhar used to speak English better than any literate BRITISHER.

  • Wow, Expector. This blog is written in 1999. I was still Elementary school. hehe..

    To be honest, I read and learn from anyone with any level of English without considering whether he/she is native speaker or not. I will refer to a book or reliable source when I find a doubt to a sentence. So, I think the case is the learner himself/herself. Never doubt to make a blog that people (learners) will learn from you.

    Best luck for the New Year! :)

    Yes, it's true that native speakers make mistakes too. It's inevitable, but doesn't seem to be such a big problem - don't be afraid of learning the mistakes.

    Just keep learning and you'll be able to recognize the mistakes they make.

    Thanks and Happy New Year!

  • @Mishaikh

    Thanks again!

  • Expector, I have reading habit, I was looking for something to read, I found this blog of yours, so i read and could not stop myself to comment.

  • Thanks to Nadiyah, messy, Mishaikh.

    @Mishaikh

    You made me reread this blog - I worte it years ago. Thanks for commenting on it.

  • For learning teaching is very good medium. A learner should read irrespective who has written the text, native or not. So far as errors are concerned, native speaker of the language errs, too.

  • Expector,

    this blog post was written on 1999??? errrr..wow

    as regards to your topic, hmmm.. its a bit depressing!lol

    if all readers only focus their reading on the native speaker due to the afraid of learning mistakes from non-native, then, who is gonna read the non-native blogs??

    oh, sorry for being emotional. haha..

    actually I prefer to read non-native blogs cause its easier to understand them (am referring to the intermediate speaker)
