Day two (Arafah)

We are on the second day of hajj. It's Thulhijjah 9th 1437 H. as we mentioned before, after sleeping in Minna, and after dawn prayer, the pilgrims will move to plain Arafah. This is the main corner of hajj. According to Prophet Mohammed, (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ((Al-hajj Arafah)). This simple phrase implies a great concept of the meaning of hajj.  It means that the whole hajj and its legality are confined in the effective day of Arafah. It means that hajj becomes valid only when the day of Arafah is witnessed and observed by the pilgrims who intended hajj, regardless of being in Mecca for a long period of time. To summarize this hadith, the pilgrim must be on plain Arafah before transience or the disappearance of the sun, taking care of being within the limits or the boarders of Arafah. On their way from Minna to Arafah, they must keep their chanting (labaik alahuma labaik, labaika la shareeka laka laibai, ina alhamdah wa nimata lak, la shareeka laka labaik) the chanting means, Oh God, here I am, answering you, and you have no partner, the blessing is your and the sovereignty, Praise and grace is for you, you have no partner. I am here for you and at your command.

He must wait until the call for prayer. Then, he prays duhur and assar prayers combined and shortened to two rakaa for each prayer in Namirah mosque. And continues his chanting and supplication to Allah, The Almighty. Why the name of Arafah for that place? They were many novels and hadiths about it, but there were no solid textual evidence that can be traced to the prophet, (peace and blessings of Allah be upon Him). But some (ulamaa) scientists or scholars who had recorded stories from the past like, Arafah comes from the Arabic verb 'yaarif', Arafa is the past tense of it. Arafah is the place where Prophet Adam met our mother Eve. Another story, angel Jibreel took Prophet Abraham and introduced him to the different rites of hajj and each time he was telling him, "Did you know?" Arafah is the place where pilgrims meet and know one another for the first time.

But despite everything, no (alim) scholar would debate or argue about the significance and the importance of Arafah for pilgrimage and pilgrims.  There is no day better in the sight of Allah than the day of Arafah. Allah will descend on that day to the nearest heaven in a way that suits his Almighty, and He is proud of his slaves on earth and He says to his angels in heaven, ((look at my servants, they have come from far away and near, despite that they have not seen my punishment. What do they want? Mercy, oh my angels you witness that I have forgiven them)). Before sunset, many people will be freed from the hellfire on the day of Arafah than any other day.

  • wow i never do that, but it can be my vision. it's a good topic.

  • Yes Mr. Dara those were planted by Zia-ul-haq.

  • Eid mubarak janab Mishaikh! Allah knows their languages, their intentions, what do they really want? and why? After all, He is their creator. Were those trees planted by Mr. Ziaul Hag? He is lucky, Allah will plant trees for him in Janah (paradise).

  • I had a very peculiar experience when I was praying in the plain of Arafah under the open sky.  There were people all around from all cast, culture and speaking different languages.  I heard them praying, begging for mercy of Allah in their own language.  Prays were spoken in many many different languages under the same singe roof (sky), and Allah was listenting (listens) to all, there were no barrier of language for Him, all languages belong to Him. Subhanallah!

One more thing which I very proudly want to say, there are trees in Maidan-e-Arafah, and these tress were offered to plant one of Pakistan's President, Zia ul Haq. Subhanallah!!
