Cultural differences around the world

This Slideshow on the BBC News sites  "More than a Handshake" discusses some of the cultural differences among nationalities in a business setting.  If your country isn't listed, how are your customs the same or different from those listed?

The U.S. is listed but you will see variances in different parts of the U.S.   The South tends to be less formal in my experience than many other areas.

  • In Malaysia, hand shake is optional for female. Some Muslim females may not shake your hand back due to religious matter, so don't be offended if they just nod their heads and smile as an acknowledgement of your hand shakes.

  • Before your next — and especially your first — business meeting in Shanghai, London or Rio de Janeiro, brush up on the professional culture basics.

    Shanghai is in China...  ;-)
