Child Abuse

Recently, I have often heard news of child abuse. When I hear the news, I always feel sad and angry at the parents who abuse their children. A few days ago, a 10 year old girl was killed by her father. He had abused her for a long time like by beating her, throwing her in a cold shower and making her stand for hours. She asked for help from her school and a child consultation center, but they couldn't save her life. One reason of that is because he insisted his actions like that were the actions of home discipline. Japanese society tends to admit slight physical punishment as discipline. Of course, his actions were obviously not home discipline but violence.

After that case, the Japanese government is considering whether they should make a new law that prohibits any physical punishment in the family. However some people think they need slight physical punishment and say that: what they should do if their children are bad and don't listen to what they say? What do you think about that?

  • Hello, Saba, Thank you for sharing your opinion. I think so, too.

  •

Physical punishment is not effective at all. It makes the child learn violence, lack of confidense , sometimes may be hurt badly and  dosen't love parents. It is better to talk to the child kindly and explain for her/ him what is bad and what is good, if the child dosen't listen to parents, he/she should be deprived of what he/she likes such as toys, going to park etc.

  • Hi, Rosemary. Thank you for your comment I think parents who abuse their children have some kind of problem like you said. They take out their frustration on their children. Children are too weak to resist the violence, so adults around them must notice child abuse and protect them from the violence.

  • @Rosemary, sister

You can know your father better than us, but you can't say it surely agianst all the fathers. Your opinion is viewed as a man-hater's statement.   You can't apply a case to every issues. Be a responsible citezen of this virtual world. ;)

  •    There are many horrible stories  related to your topic . It's everywhere  Tam  . From my own personal point of view  , the father isn't a normal man at all . He might be a victim of child abuse  himself   , a drug addictor or a mentally  ill man  . Unfortunately  , the weaker pay the higher cost  in every society  . Women and children are likely to be victims to such acts of violence  and they need our support and help to stop the bad and vicious cycle of violence  . My neighbor is a divorcee  with 5 little  kids with no steady income  . Whenever I see her 7 year daughter  face,  I see many pains that's  speaks  . It's clear that she is paying for all the mistakes of their bad situation  and she express her anger through violence  it's her way to react aganist every one bulliness  . We need  love and much of it to overcome the difficulties of life  . It's a crime to bring an unwanted child to this world  . The human bomb will explode  sooner or later

  • Hello, Arif. Thank you for teaching a saying in your Urdu.

  • In our Urdu we say "کھلاؤ سونے کا نوالہ اور دیکھو شیر کی نظر سے " trasnlate in English. It implies that taking care of children from all aspects, specially from financial viewpoints but keep distance so as to administer home affairs properly and there is no need to abuse child.

  • Hi, Estanis. Thank you for sharing your opinion. Yes, physical punishment was very common in olden days, but it has changed and is considered as a bad thing nowadays in Japan as well as in West European countries. But some people don't realize the difference between light physical punishment and violence, and they get rid of stress by abusing their children. The children are too weak to resist the violence.

  • Hello, Yeti. Thank you for sharing your opinion. I think his wife is also responsible for it. She must have protected her daughter from his violence. She might be afraid of him. Parents who abuse their children are generally immature.

As for light physical punishment, basically I agree with you, but there are some people who don't realize the difference between light physical punishment and violence, so they sometimes hurt children.

  • Hello, Mishaikh. Thank you for sharing your experience. Yes, adults sometimes need to think about children in the position of them.
