Carlos Ghosn's greed hurt his reputation

Nissan, a big Japanese car company, was facing financial difficulties in the late 90's. Carlos Ghosn was appointed as the president of Nissan in 1999 and succeeded in rebuilding the company. At that time, most of the Japanese mass media admired him as a good manager.

After eighteen years, he was arrested by Japanese police in December of 2018. The reason is because he is suspected to have underreported his income from Nissan by more than 10 million dollars and shifted his 16 million dollars of losses by stocks trades to Nissan. Moreover, he is suspected of using the money of Nissan for himself. He could do this because he had been the president of Nissan for a long time and power became concentrated in him. I think that this has happened because of his greed for money. He lost his reputation because of his greed. Greed ruins one's life, doesn't it?

  • Hi, Onee-chan. Thank you for your comment. Yes, we should know that.

  • Some people will say it's natural. Well, it isn't.

Greed can ruins life? Yes. We should know, "What are our rights, and what are not our rights"

Thank you for sharing such an informative post, Tam.

  • Hi, Hardi. Thank you for your comment. I don't think it is bad that he lives in luxury with his money. But he seems to use the company money to do that. It must not be allowed.

  • Was it kind of sport to him? It must have been. Just for consumption, or luxury sounds unbelievable. Well actually depends how you define luxury these day.

Luxury seems to be: Things that you can actually use with smile. Things that won't break, 2 days after mandatory 2 years guarantee.. Or even before that. Things that are more time in use, than in repairs.. And last but not least, things that actually have all the functionality that you need from them, without added "value" that you don't require.:D

You don't believe me? I don't know either, but it's plausible, that I'm not wrong. :P I might also just be the kind of person, who's never happy with anything. ;)

PS. I guess if you have some millions and work on such position, maybe you really can optain some "luxury" object too.

  • Hi, Estanis. Thank you for your comment. Yes, I agree with you. He earned more than 20 million dollars from Nissan per year. However he seems to want to earn more money.

  • Thanks for sharing this fact about Nissan, didn't know it. I see corruption is common in maybe almost everywhere hmm... human nature perhaps. Might be a cold comfort for you but in my country it's worse since it happens sometimes with public funds, yeah shame on us!

As for your question, we shouldn't mix up greed and a personal ambition to succeed although there's a very thin line between for some surely.
  • Hi, Dara. Thank you for your comment. You may become a good manager. I think managers should not monopolize the profit, instead they should distribute it to their workers.

  • Arigato Tam! If I had half of the brain of that guy, I would just sit and distribute money. What do we need from life? Believe me, Tam there are certain things that happen in life which make our brain hold to function. I hope his reputation will help him against the Japanese justice. Thanks for sharing.
