Blogs about Gaza fighting

My friend nida - one of our active members here on MyEC - just asked where all the blogs about Gaza are and if I have deleted all of them. I thanked her for asking and told her I didn't deleted the blogs. But I also told her that anything that may cause fights or hatred between MyEC members can be flaged or closed by the system, which means you can't see the blogs any more.

I understand the subtlety of the situation in the Gaza Strip. I'm so sorry that so many lives there were lost. The question is when we'll have true peace or when we don't need to fight or kill any more. I know it's a long story or history. I think people around the world have already noticed the situation there and there are a lot of places on the Internet where we can discuss the problems. Let's pray for the peace and hope for the best!

MyEC is intended for being a place where you can learn English and make friends, so it can be so improper to post anything that may spark a serious argument. You may argue that it's also related to English learning - we're discussing in English:))

Sorry if you don't agree with me. What do you think of that?

Did you know one of my blogs was just flagged? Yes, it's the blog about the Chinese female astronaut. I coped the pics from the Internet, even though I did add the two links to the original sites. So, just as you can see, we are trying to keep this site (MyEC) a decent, friendly place by correcting and adjusting. I hope this discussion will help clarify the rules too, and hope more and more members (like you) here can help maintain the decency of MyEC.  You've been an active member here and have such strong English skills, so I'm sure you can be of great help here.

By the way, I can tell you were so angry when you knew your blog was flagged, but you didn't use any abusive language, which I really appreciate. Keep up your great work here.

  • Ma'am Tara, I will make it clear for the last time ...

I believe that the staff should provided an equal treatment for all the members here (according to the rules).

So as I said in my previous comments, I didn't have any intention to write about Gaza cuz "as some members said" it is everywhere in the news. Moreover, EC shouldn't be dragged to this conflict (as it is an educational site).

However, when i was taking a look on the blog section i found a blog that made me feel sad and pain. ... As far as i know, words should be answered by words and opinions should be answered by opinions. This is what i know and understand. So, i decided to publish a blog to express my opinion as well.

In short time, my blog was flagged and that made me wonder why ?!!

Is it bcuz a technical reason (breaking the rules)?

Or it was just flagged cuz it is about Gaza and have some disturbing pics "but it is the truth" (knowing that there are many blogs used similar pics for different topics) ?

This was my question to the staff.

Honestly, I know the rules and I know that using some pics from the internet is not allowed, but i think that I forgot that or  I dropped it unintentionally cuz i usually use many pics in my blogs as many do that.

At 1st, all the answers i got was confusing and it seems that Gaza was the problem. I, myself, set in my mind that i will re-publish or write another blog about Gaza no matter what. As long as this blog is in blog section then the staff should allow the same space for both opinions.

But after that, I get a clear answer from the admin "you"  that the reason was that i stole the pics from the internet.

I have to mention that if, from the 1st, i was asked to remove the blog cuz i have broken the rules or even told after it was flagged the reason for why it was flagged. I would apologize to admins and we would avoid this problem and this mess.

In my last comment I said i will write a blog about Gaza and express my opinion "according to rules" no matter what.... but hold on .. it is not a fight for the sake of the fight.

Thinking of these 3 points made me change my mind:

1-I made a grave mistake by posting copyrighted pics .... I sincerely apologize for EC staff and all the members for that.

2-That blog which i mentioned above is no long here ... I'm grateful and in debt for this member.

3-I agree with you in what you said about this site. it a place  for learning and practicing English.

Ma'am, if you allow me i need a favor, take a look at the blog section, you might find some blogs that have broken the rules.

One last favor, if you have time, check my blogs .. they are full of pics and videos and if you found anything that breaks the rules, let me know  and i will modify, change or remove it.

  • @Tara

Thanks so much for helping us make it clearer!

    @Ameur

Thank you for joining in the discussion. You really have a point there. Don't get me wrong - I never said you are not allowed to talk about politics or some other serious or sensitive issues here. I just wanted to say Gaza issue is such a sensitive topic and it's not a good idea to publish so many blogs about Gaza. I understand your feelings about Gaza and I said I'm so sorry about what's happening in Gaza. Let's just hope for the best.

  • I hesitated a lot in writing my point of view on this blog, but I found myself forced to say only some words, I find very sad that there are people who still think this way ...

I just want to say when became the talk of the rights of others in life and to live in peace and to protect the innocent and to stand with the truth and a tell the kind word and call for cooperation and love and..... raises hatred and fights ...

you said***MyEC is intended for being a place where you can learn English and make friends..*** Tell me how!!!!!! learn English ... but do not talk about politics Is this the logic of life ..and how I make a friend I dont know how he think about the real cases now..

How do I learn English and you prevent me talk about the lives of others and their suffering and prevent post their photos for whatever happy or sad ... Is the education or learning English or anything else is just words we write or read it ... NO!!!!NO my friend Sir Expector Smith.

    Aristotle said

“Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all”

    Thanks

  • I apologize for using the word "stole". I just wanted it to be very clear. Plagiarism is stealing. You're right. There are many other places where people have used images illegally on MyEC. I hope this incident helps clarify the rules. It is illegal to copy and paste images that aren't in the public domain. Identifying the source is not enough. You need permission from the photographer to republish the photo. I hope you can also understand that we don't have time to go through every illegal photo on MyEC. We do our best. Thanks to all of the people who help maintain this site. Please do not harass our mods. They are volunteers who are English learners, too.

  • I think the Admins of this site don't know anything about humanity ...... they regard speaking about Gaza is fighting .... I want to say one thing to these sucks admins (( the situation in Gaza is very very clear to all the world and it can't find two normal humans on disagreement "fighting" for this fact )) .... in addition to these blogs won't be useful for Gaza in anything ... it's just useful for your own site .... obviously , it shows the situation of your site toward the crimes war , and toward the normally humans right , .... and I think your situation is also very clear that you don't care for this case ........ damn you

  • "Most likely the reason your blog post was flagged is that you stole pictures from a news site and didn't have permission to use them"

Alright Ma'am Tara although you used offensive word like "stole" instead of "breaking the rules", but you made it clear finally. My blog was flagged cuz I "stole" pics from a news site.

This is a good and a logical reason I can understand and accept instead of the silly and loose reason that were said like " promoting hate" .. "it may cause fights or hatred between members" ... "it may spark a serious argument".

Your answer was very clear which made me feel comfort cuz my blog wasn't flagged due to staff's personal judgement or any kind of prejudice. There is a reason and it is a strong reason that i can accept and understand.

From my side, I see the staff did the right thing (although at 1st they gave lots of unclear explanations).

That forces me to apologize to all the staff for "stealing" pics from the news.

I make it clear .. I'm sorry to the staff and all the members here for "stealing" the pics.

But do you know what .. I want you to check this blog .... http://my.englishclub.com/profiles/blogs/wow-hats-off-to-china-s-fi...

This is Expector smith's blog, he "took" pic from BBC. moreover, he didn't write any  personal view or opinion. they were just 2 pics and the links that they were took from "The BBC",  so what do you think of that ?

This blog wasn't flagged as mine, although both of us "took" pics from the news.

The only explanation i have for his blog not to get flagged .. is that he mentioned the place he took them from.

My blog was flagged cuz i "stole" pics from the news ( i can understand that).

But i don't think that the blog will be flagged if i referred to the place that i took the pics from. ( as Expector's case). Or why Expector's blog is still here and didn't  get flagged.

Ma'am Tara, I don't like to break the rules, that's why i kept asking for an explanation to avoid it the next time.

After knowing the reason and seeing Expector's case i think that taking pics with mentioning its reference is allowed. Or that will mean that even the mod broke the rule of this site.

Pls, Ma'am tara, I need your confirmation on my conclusion or just denying it.

I respect the rules and i also respect my right to express myself, and by following the rules i will express myself.

I will re-publish my blog again with referring to the place i got them from (as Expector's did exactly)

And you will have 3 options to take:

1-Allow my blog as you allowed Expector's blog.

2-Change the rules so we can add pics from the news with referring to its source.

    3-Banning me.
