I never believed in love at first sight until that day. There is always a day when something incredible happens and that miraculously changes your belief. And, that was the day when she walked into my life like a gush of cold wind, touched my heart and washed over me an utterly new unknown feeling called “Love”. I still amaze how it happened and why it happened? It happened though.

Still remember that cold morning. I was sitting on my rocker in the kitchen garden of my home, flipping through the newspaper to update myself about the world, without knowing that after a couple of minutes my own world is going to change. I glanced up and that was the moment when that fairy walked on the gravel path leading towards the small flower shop situated right in front of my home. Her waist length black hair rippled as she moved. I couldn’t help stealing a glance at her flawless beauty, fair like milk, dressed red. She paused at the flower shop which was adorned by a variety of beautiful flowers, picked one red rose and inhales the ardent aroma of it. Afterwards, handing over money to the florist, she made her way to the local bus stop situated ten steps away from there.

Standing there with that red rose in her hand, she was waiting for the bus impatiently. I wondered why she needed to buy a rose as she herself was more delicate and fresh than any flower exists in this world. Her gaze was fixed in the direction from where bus had to come and mine, needless to say, on her. I wished to keep looking her standing there like this throughout my life. But, crushing my wish, bus came, pulled over and covered her behind it. My heart skipped thinking she was gone. God was merciful though. As bus moved forward, I saw her still standing there with her head down. I could sense she was sad. I saw her hand moved up to her cheek to wipe off the tears flowed down from her eyes. My eyes became mist seeing her like that. The very next moment she left. I saw her going until she disappeared.

As she had gone, I felt an uncontrollable power drawing me towards the bus stop. Like a dry leaf, I drifted in that direction. Upon reaching there, I saw a red rose lying on one of the seats made for the waiting passengers. A small piece of paper was rolled over it. Picking it, I came back. At home, I unrolled that paper. Scribbled on it was “waiting for you dear.” Perhaps, that girl was waiting for someone who was about to come, but didn’t and she left in despair. I felt sad for her. I wished if I could do anything to make her happy, but I felt helpless. It was out of my hand, her happiness as well as her sadness.

....To be continued

She married her neighbor, the janitor who suddenly became a rich man. Don't ask me why but that what happened more than two decades ago. What do we do about love Shabeen?
