2.  Loss of a material or resource due to obsolescence or spoilage.

    The word 'attrition' (pronounced /əˈtrɪʃn/) also has another meaning which I find very interesting.

    "The process of making somebody or something, especially our enemy, weaker by repeatedly attacking them or creating problem for them."
