Anger Management Advice

Anger is a very powerful emotion that can stem from feelings of frustration, hurt and annoyance. It can be an underlying cause of anxiety and depression. Anger that is not appropriately expressed can disrupt relationships and create a variety of physical problems. Chronic anger has been linked to health issues such as high blood pressure, crime, physical abuse and other violent behavior. When you start feeling angry, try deep breathing. Slowly repeat a calm word, or phrase, such as "relax" or "take it easy," until the anger subsides. Try to gain a different perspective by putting yourself in another's place. Learn how to laugh at yourself and see humor in situations. Learn to assert yourself, expressing your feelings calmly and directly, without becoming defensive, or emotionally charged. If you feel that your anger is having a negative affect on your life and relationships, seek the help of a mental health professional. A psychologist can work with you to develop techniques for changing your thinking and your behavior.

  • Dear asma,

    Yes, it is really an interesting topic! I’m pleased to say that the word “anger” is seemed to be a blanket-term, and it is difficult to define it in a linear model. Anger is really a natural emotion that experiences all members in the animal kingdom. People lose the temper due to various factors prevailing around us. Actually, most of these factors in the modern world are linked to socio-economic-political and ecological states. It is acknowledged that the reaction of one person to a certain issue would be different from that of another person, so the intensity and nature of anger are likely subjective. At times, we get mild forms of human anger in facing some situations in the society such as displeasure, disapproval and so on, but when we face situations like frustration, disappointment, threat, danger and so forth, the situation is totally different and the reaction is more violent and difficult to control. And also, I feel that at times, anger would be a good health response because after blasting as a result of anger, our mind gets empty and we could gradually come to the normalcy. Please don’t misunderstand me! There may be a lot of medical definitions to elucidate this emotional form of humans, but I feel that the modern-ultra-competitive society provide us with many elements to boost the situation, so it is difficult to understand the complete picture of this case without understanding those aspects of a society to a greater extent. (I personally believe that this unnecessary competition (soap-bubble competition) is really harmful to human health;
    it needs competition for the evolution, but at present, we all experience
    something harmful in all aspects)

    Good Luck!

    Bimal

  • I agree with you anger is a very powerful emotion. Yes it's better to have a minute or two to relax and to reconcider your bad thoughts.
