Abacus

Have you ever seen an abacus?

The abacus (plural abaci or abacuses), also called a counting frame, is a calculating tool used primarily in parts of Asia for elementary calculating.

We were in shopping last week (for buying a curtain) and the seller used an abacus for calculating the price. It was really amazing that he still used Abacus instead of calculator.

He was an old man and I took a photo from him abacus.

It is his abacus picture:

  • Nice memorise dear Sewar :)

  •    Oh my dear, really you took me back to the warm memories with your abacus. These memories have been stuck in my mind since I was 5 years old. Our neighbor’s son, who was 8 years old, used to steal his father’s abacus to lure me to play with him. Thanks for the memories.

  • Mahgol dear, thanks!
It is really amazing that it is still in schools!
  • In Japanese, the abacus is called "soroban". Even with the proliferation, practicality, and affordability of pocket electronic calculators, the use of soroban is still taught in Japanese primary schools as a part of mathematics.

and recently a system called UC MAS,is a program is designed to boost brain power and stimulate young minds (for children between 4 and 12 years age) using abacus and mental arithmetic in a way that children find engaging and fun.

In Iran we have this institute too, نوآوران راه ابریشم
