Hi dear friends!
I was on Nida's page where among her favorite quotations, my attention was
drawn to a famous saying.
Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy , wealthy and wise !
Before, I'd heard it from one of my lovely English teachers. He also told us
another form of this saying for kidding:
Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man a rooster in disguise!
Just for fun!
Anyway, let's talk about the original saying; about going to bed early at night and
waking up early in the morning.
If you like the topic, try to answer the following questions, OK?
As for me, I am almost nocturnal like an owl ! But recently, I am giving up this
habit, though I love it!
You know, I am used to staying up late at night and staying in bed till late in the
morning. Hardly I can stay awake early in the morning, though I can count days
when I woke up early and stayed awake in the morning.
I do know that this habit of mine is not good both for health and wealth, as the
You know, if you want to be employed somewhere, normally you have to go to work early in the morning, though there exist some kind of jobs where your work-hours are not in the morning.
Banks, schools ,universities and many offices normally start in the morning. So the earlier you prepare yourself to do your chores and official work, the better.
At university, I had some classes which began at 7:30 in the morning. As far as I remember, I used to be late for those courses and it's really bad and embarrassing. So I have to change my favorite habit of staying late at night, since it interferes with my daily life. It keeps me behind in life. So it is a must to give it up. I am on the track of being used to a new lifestyle, since I am lessening the hours at night when I am awake.But to tell the truth, I can't fall asleep so soon. Usually, I have to have my handsfree in my ears listening to radio, music or some other stuff so that I can sleep. I know those waves emitting through my cell phone are harmful to health, but it's the best and only way for me to put me in peace and rest so that I can sleep !
You know when you rest enough at night, there is no reason to stay in bed till late in the morning. Get enough sleep and get refreshed so that you have the favorite efficiency of yours.
I've heard sth about the biological clock and its harmony with the nature's light and warmth. At night it's cooler and more comfortable to rest. During the day, you have daylight and the sun's abundant energy.(You can find articles on such a topic by googling it.) So from scientific point of view, and in harmony with nature, we'd better rest at night and do our chores during the day.

Another point about the saying is that our mind is more ready and at peace for learning early in the morning rather than any other time. Early in the morning, your mind is in peace, no happenings and no news yet. You've just woken up with a mind which has been in peace and rest at night, and you hardly remember bad thoughts and bad events occurred to you in the past. So you can learn and study with more concentration. If you don't agree with that, it's because you are used to another style , like me. I myself think that I can study better at night because of its peace and silence. But, my stress is higher then. The earlier you do your chores and studies, the more relaxed and calm you are.
Well, to wrap it up, I do believe in the saying that "early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise." Naturally we are designed to sleep in darkness and be active during existence of daylight, just as work-hours of the enormous sun! Yet, I can't deny that we are flexible creatures and we can decide when to sleep and when not to. But we'd better be in harmony with nature, hadn't we?
