I ever read an article about the benefits of bilingual, which makes me overwhelming for the fact that I believe I am a bilingual. After I read the whole text, however, I lost the enthusiasm. It is said that it does not matter how many languages you learn but the depth of another language matters. I have to admit that I only master the listening and speaking of Cantonese although it is my fist language. And I am good at reading, writing, listening and speaking in Mandarin. For English, I can say my reading and listening are much better than writing and speaking. To summarise, despite of using three languages, I only master Mandarin in four modules which are reading, listening, writing and speaking. The beneficial contribution from other two languages is limited according to the depth of language. Thus I think I should enhance the writing and speaking skill in English to become a real bilingual.

Hi Robert,

I am going to move back to Guangzhou temporarily after the Spring Festival. I have not made up my mind to stay there or migrate to Beijing again. Therefore it is hard to say I will see you in Beijing or not this fall.

Aha a true friend ! I am on the other side of the world . And only beginning to learn the common language . I loved what you said .Sometimes I have to communicate when I can't speak Mandarin. So when I speak from my heart and it is understood ,I have great joy, likewise when I am misunderstood I have a sadness .Would love to see you when I fly into Beijing this fall.

I think being bilingual is better, but it really takes a lot of time and effort to learn a second language.

Just on the contrary!
I'm somehow good at speaking and writing but lack reading and listening (at media).
Anyway, I liked the part'' depth of a language matters''...
