No time or a matter of priorities?

Hey, guys, have you ever heard the phrase “ I am sorry, I don’t have time.”? You ask someone for something and they go: “Oh, I am sorry, I’ve been really busy lately, so I don’t have time to do that for you”. I bet, you have heard that many times, probably you have also used the phrase yourself, but have you ever thought what actually stands behind these words? Do people really have no time to do this or that? Can people be so busy that when they say “I don’t have time”, it literally means “I don’t have time”? NO!

What happened to me couple of days ago made me realize the real meaning of “I don’t have time”. Let me explain.

I’ve been working a lot lately. It’s been like 14 hours a day or something. You can imagine what this means, no time for personal life at all. A friend of mine /the best one, if I have to be more specific/called me last week, we talked a little and before hanging up she went: “Hey, let me take you out for diner, what would you say?” I was about to say “Sure! It would be great”, but I remembered how much work was waiting for me, so I said “Sorry, I really don’t have time, I’ve got so much to do”. She called again next day, our conversation was quite the same. Actually we had the same conversation over and over again during the whole week. It was already the end of the week, she didn’t call this day, probably she got tired of getting one and the same response all the time. And then something happened, after one more of these long days at work, I got home and there was a bad surprise for me. Before getting out in the morning I left one of the windows open. There must have been some storm, everything around was soaked. In short, the mess was really huge. I had not known about the storm before I got home, because I work in another city and the weather there, was quite sunny during the whole day, no clues about rain. Anyway, It took me couple of hours to put the things in order. When I finished cleaning only one thing was circling in my head. I thought I couldn’t take any time for something that’s out of my schedule, but it turned out I was wrong. When I had to find time to clean all the mess, I did it, instead of getting out and having fun with a friend, I didn’t have time for that. Then I realized that “I don’t have time” stands for “This is not my priority”. Human beings are rational they are able to define their own priorities, but sometimes we just start going with the flow and the whole this routine life deforms our priorities to a state where they have never meant to be. Maybe sometime we should just stop for a while and ask ourselves “Are my priorities in an order I want them to be?” If they are not, just permute them! So simple J

Thanks for taking time and reading all this. Maybe it’s time for you to permute your priorities… or maybe not. :D

Well... I do agree it is about our priorities and I don't think you made mistake as you rejected friend's invitation many times.. if you were busy at work, tired etc. - you just weren't in mood to go out and have some fun! I would say it depends on our nature - some ppl take things easy.. others are too responsible.. I am sure your friends undrstood it and ohhh yeah plz change just one priority - your job :D

Well, I called her and asked her out, so we had a great Friday night. As you know she is my bestie, she knows all my secrets, I cannot afford to have her angry at me LOL...I am kidding of course. I love her, so I did my best to make it up to her.

Thanks for your comments, guys!

Why don't you ask your friend out and clear the air? Never late to work on friendships.

You are right, that's what I think
" have no time mean that this is not your priority"

Your friend got know that your work is more important then her, that's why she left inviting you for having dinner :| it does not means that she is not missing you or she doesn't want to invite you for dinner BUT she stop showing you.. :)

Do you feel like playing a game chain? The rules of this game are pretty basic: Someone asks a question and that question has to be answered with another question and it keeps going and going and going... to infinity and beyond.Example:EC Member 1:…Continue
