A dear friend

'Eurasian jay' called 'Eichelhäher' in German.

This little fellow comes to my balcony every day since 3 years. First alone, but meanwhile he brings his whole family. He can mimic a meowing cat. Very funny! :-)

Thanks Robbie! You're right. Indeed I had long waited on the floor before I got these shots But it was worth it!

Hi MARY, you are a good observer! But these peanuts were only a little bribery 'cause the clicking of the camera is so loud at this distance. Lying on the ground was also too suspicious for the other birds. He was the only one which was brave enough to stay a long time. He was scrutinising the situation as he always does. No one of my other little visitors does it with such an interest. Unfortunately the noise around is too loud to record it with an ordinary microphone. But the meowing is so convincing he really fooled me several times before I realized that it was him.

Hallo noaslpls, he really tries barking sometimes... but it isn't that convincing. ;-) The meowing is so perfect everybody thinks it must be the neighbour's cat. Actually it mimics the call of a buzzard. But people in our land normally don't know that, because there are only a few left. He also can mimic a jackhammer and several other raptor bird calls. He has no name but I feel a special affection for him.

I'm really delighted that so many of you like this little guy. He is a real charmer and much more to me than just a bird... Thanks to all of you for your nice comments! :O)))
